Dementia advocate talks about listening
Trailer
The role of a carer in Dementia care is completely misunderstood. To be successful you need to have an intuitive approach combined with love. Lynnette talks potently about how intuition has allowed her to allow beautiful opportunities for her patients.

Bullets:

  • It makes complete sense, to ask your body what the priority is.
  • With Dementia, you must communicate and connect from the heart. The head is no longer working properly.
  • The patients are not free, they are locked in a place where the recognisable is unavailable.

Quote:
You can’t ignore the dementia patient. You must remain engaged with them. Fear and grief are often the reality.

Lynette Favell

Background
From a young age, she has had a thirst for knowledge and has always enjoyed a keen engagement with people.
Lynette originally trained as a nurse with advanced certificates including Cardio Thoracic. She has used this formal study as a platform for further exploration in many other complementary health therapies.
Lynette’s particular passion lies in teaching and has often found herself in a mentoring role during her service as a nurse. She maintains a strong interest in expanding her knowledge and continues to study throughout her adult life. She loved teaching in nursing and is continuing that dedication in educating new students and practitioners. Those nursing roots are also the platform for Lynette’s current development work evolving offerings into a program empowering carers in the community to look after themselves and those they care for.
End of Life Doula Completed training: 2018 Other modalities: BodyTalk practitioner and trainer. I chose to become an End Of Life Doula after 30 years of nursing and health care in a variety of settings. I always feel it is sacred and precious to be with those dying and it always felt natural and an honour to be present. The final inspiration came whilst working in Aged Care, specifically Dementia Care. There I recognised the deep need for connection and the importance of advocacy, love, support and communication for these residents and their families. They are often grieving, and feeling very alone. Families were seeking me out for guidance and support. I trained as a Doula with Preparing the Way in March 2018 to formalise and expand what I have already been doing for my adult years. My passion is to offer a professional Doula service in Aged Care Facilities to "bridge the gap"and to ensure families and residents are empowered and informed regarding all care and choices enabling our elder community to experience a meaningful death. I am a kind, intuitive and grounded person with a great passion for this work. As a professional End Of Life Doula I will journey with you and in service to you with an open heart, love and compassion.
