It is spring in Europe. And this week the “Eisheiligen”, ice saints, are ruling weather and the work on the land, especially in northern parts. The ice saints are feared by farmers and gardeners as winter usually comes back for a final farewell showing frosts at night. Especially early blossoms and sprouts are in danger and can be destroyed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gardeners usually wait until the cold Sophie has gone by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These so called “Eisheiligen” usually last a week according to the memorial days of Saints, like: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    According to peasant rules the spring weather should become more stable after the cold Sophie is gone. and then the gardening season starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There is a second weather setback feared which usually shows up in June: the sheep cold. That is supposed to take place around 11th of June. Therefore sheep, especially female animals and their lambs are not being sheared before. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
